Organization at a glance
Sylhet Deaf Welfare and Sports Association is a Deaf Peoples Organization (DPO) working in Sylhet district of Bangladesh. The organization, which has been organizing since 1995 to develop persons with hearing impairments through participation in sports, was formally established on 19 April 2002. Now the organization has total 168 members with hearing impairments. The organization implements its activities ensuring equal participation of men and women with hearing impairments.
According to the bylaws of the organization, the organizational activities are implemented by the staff and volunteers following the directives of the General Secretary/ Executive Director under supervision of the Executive and General Committee. Through the direct involvement of the men and women with hearing impairments, the organization is working to promote rights of the Deaf and improving their lives with supports from government and non-government organizations. Besides, the organization is striving for partnership with the mainstreaming organizations for Disability Inclusion in their programs through ensuring active and meaningful participation of the Deaf, as well as providing capacity building and technical assistance.
Working area
Sylhet Deaf Welfare and Sports Association is working in Bangladesh in all sub-district (upazila) of Sylhet, and the Sylhet City Corporation area.
